TORONTO, ON – Two teenagers aged 16 and 14 died late Monday following a pedestrian crash involving a UP Express train in Toronto's York district, reports Global News.
The fatal incident unfolded on the westbound tracks near the intersection of Eglinton Avenue and Weston Road, in the Mount Dennis neighborhood, shortly after 10:00 p.m.
According to Toronto Police Inspector Keri Fernandes, the teens were struck and killed by a westbound UP Express train that had departed from Union Station and was on its way to Toronto Pearson International Airport. Officials said the train was transporting over 200 passengers at the time, and that the train operators were the first to alert authorities.
It's unclear at this time why the victims, a 16-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, were on the tracks at the time, and from where they entered. The relationship between the two decedents has not been made public.
An investigation remains open and ongoing.
