TORONTO, ON – First responders sent multiple people to the hospital Wednesday morning following a crash involving at least 17 vehicles on a Highway 401 onramp in Toronto's Etobicoke district, reports City News Everywhere.
Icy weather conditions is believed to have factored into the multi-vehicle accident, which occurred on the ramp connecting westbound Eglinton Avenue West to westbound ON-401 at about 7:45 a.m.
A sequence of events has not been released, but according to Ontario Provincial Police Sergeant Kerry Schmidt, multiple people were transported to a local hospital with injuries believed to be more minor.
Officials said a bout of snowfall at the time likely contributed to conditions that led to the pileup on the overpass. The westbound ramp from Eglinton Ave was expected to remain closed as crews cleared the impacted vehicles.
